Can we seal alcohol with silicone rubber? Does alcohol corrode the silicone seal? Silicone rubber seals are used to seal alcohol and do not react with each other.
Silicone rubber seal ring was introduced as a kind of high active adsorption material. Silica gel is a kind of highly active adsorption material, which usually contains sodium silicate and sulfuric acid. It is made by a series of post-treatment processes, such as aging and acid bubble. Silica gel is an amorphous substance, insoluble in water and any solvent, non-toxic and tasteless, stable in chemical properties, and does not react with any substance other than strong base and hydrofluoric acid. Alcohol is a colorless, transparent, volatile, flammable and non-conductive liquid. When the alcohol concentration is 70%, it has a strong killing effect on bacteria. Therefore, for some medical silicone rubber seals only certified by FDA, they are usually sterilized and preserved with alcohol or normal saline at high temperature.
It can be seen that alcohol will not corrode the silicone rubber sealing ring, and will not cause any damage to the silicone rubber sealing ring.
